The issue is not that Trump and his people met with Russian officials, it's that they keep lying about it, and that Russia has already played a known role in the election. If Russia had not clearly had their hands in the cookie jar, so to speak, meeting with Russian officials wouldn't be an issue.

But it's not Russophobic to be suspicious of Trump campaign/administration ties with all that has gone on in the campaign and it's aftermath, starting with Paul Manafort.

Someone in this thread or another made a joke about how the Obamas were clearly puppets of Equatorial Guinea, as they were photographed meeting with them. First, that was an official visit, and official visits are different than private, unrecorded visits. Second, if Equatorial Guinea had played some role in the election, and if a candidate had shady ties to all sorts of Equatorial Guinean interests, it'd be a fair question to ask. Especially if the candidate's campaign had kept lying about meeting with Equatorial Guinean officials.

It's not being sore losers, it's a valid question to ask: What role did the Russian government play in all of this. We acknowledge that Trump won, but what role did an aggressive foreign government play in it?

Oh FFS is this what its come down to?

Shaking hands with someone amongst a bunch of people you're shaking hands with at a reception does not constitute a meeting. Indeed its doubtful that Trump would even have remembered this. Can you imagine how many VIPs Trump would have shook hands with over the course of the campaign? Is he supposed to keep a detailed and perfect mental record of every mfer who he's shook hands with in that time?

When we had all those Dems in Congress recently grandstanding over claims that Jeff Sessions had lied to the Senate (he hadn't) you had the spectacle of Democrats denying they had ever met the Russian ambassador and clean forgetting actual sit down meetings they'd had, never mind shaking hands.

Yet another nothingburger.

Do you think that is at all remotely plausible.

Leave aside the question of whether such a 'deal' would particularly make sense for either party to make.  Just remember for a second that this is a man who is what you would call a 'conspiracy theorist', a guy who regularly watches Infowars. This is someone who has never used e-mail because he (not unreasonably) doesn't trust it to be secure. Do you honestly think that it crossed his mind for a moment during the campaign that he might not be being spied on? Do you honestly think it could possibly have crossed his mind for a moment that he could have had a phone call with Vladimir Putin without umpteen different people listening in?

I think it'd be easier to list the people associated with Trump who didn't meet with Russia.

Just becoming more and more clear that Trump made a deal with the Russians.
