Due to Trump's tariffs on Canadian lumber,  British Columbia is in the process of banning exports of US Thermal Coal to Asia through BC's export terminals.

https://www.bcliberals.com/blog/news/premier-christy-clark-calls-federal-ban-thermal-coal-exports-including-u-s-shipments/

This is actually quite significant since California has outright outlawed coal export terminals and Oregon and Washington have both shut them down as well.   The only other alternative once BC no longer accepts them is shipping the coal down to the Gulf of Mexico states and then through the Panama Canal to get to the Asian markets.    It's doubtful this would be economically profitable since most of the Coal comes from western states like Wyoming.

Maybe the other BC (Baja California) can.

How much self-awareness and critical thinking skills have GOP voters in coal mining areas displayed in the past?

Great news for Joe Manchin, who now gets to run on stopping Donald Trump's War on Coal.

This idea would seem to hurt both areas. I have trouble believing Canada would ban transshipments. That could really cause things to go downhill.

The Republicans will probably just blame it all on California again.

Perhaps, or maybe Trump will realize that pursuing an America First strategy means other countries will do the same, and a Canada First coal strategy might end up helping Canada's own suffering coal industry if Canadian exports replace Yankee transshipments.

I believe you meant to say British Columbia importing US coal.

No, the article is talking about not allowing transshipments of US coal exports (presumably to Pacific Rim nations) via BC terminals.  Not importation of US coal into BC.

True Federalist's post rather confused me as to how transshipments were harming the Canadian coal industry, but now I see that he meant Canada could now ship their coal to other countries.
