option 2 definitely.

tough to believe this guy is ranking member of the judiciary committee.  he should have been demoted to insurance salesman years ago by the good people of the vt.

Is everyone either a "freedom fighter" or "horrible person" here?

yes.

and to be fair, i think i caught a glimpse of charles grassley on that committee.

why did the republicans let him on an important panel like that?  he really is horrible (apologies to pbrunsel)

grassley should stick to his chairmanship of the corn/soybeans and peanuts sub-committee.  let's leave the important work to those members with a little intellectual fortitude and joe biden.

A sign of extremism, a characteristic that some Republicans and Democrats seem to have adopted over the past decade.  Hopefully it's not permanent.  Smiley

He's okay, Joe Biden is certainly my favorite on that committee.

Joe Biden has been very entertaining. He always is. He's never met a camera he didn't like.

Patrick Leahy is awesome! And Walter, did you consider that Vermont is liberal and that they might actually like his style? He's certainly better than that freak show Tom Coburn.

As I said somewhere else yesterday, I thought Joe Biden was rude to John Roberts. He certainly doesn't have the temperment to be president like Kerry has. But Biden is performing a vital role, seeing how Roberts stands up under pressure. He's kind of like the defense lawyer in a trial. It may not be pleasant to watch but its necessary.

Yes Joe can be somewhat flippant in his remarks. But he was right about Republicans turning the hearings into a Kabuki dance. While Jon Kyl was great yesterday, I noticed he asked like 2 questions, as opposed to dozens from the Dem Senators. Does Kyl not believe in the advise part of advise and consent?

I don't think any Democrat would deny that! Joe loves publicity and being on TV.

Leahy made a politically-calculated decision. I don't think he deserves praise nor blame for it.

I do think Bayh deserves blame for voting against Roberts... not only is Roberts from Indiana, and not only did Leahy, Feingold, and others back Roberts, but Bayh's decision was purely-- purely-- made with the 2008 Democratic primary in mind.

Of course, Hillary's decision was made for the same reason, but she's Hillary. I wonder if her and Bayh were made in the same robot factory.

Hillary and Bayh will suffer the same fate in 2008 as Kerry in 2004 (if they make it to the general election).  Political pandering will get you nowhere, except the losers column.

Wait a second, Bayh voted no?  Didn't he introduce Roberts at a press conference?

I must admit that I don't agree with Bayh on his decision to vote against Roberts. I agreed with him on Condi but not this. On this one, he may well face a backlash among Hoosiers
