Yep.  Funny though I wasn't very active towards the end and only went to NAIMUN in DC twice.  Tell Fr. Hurley I said hi if you see him!

NAIMUN - Great times, indeed! I went two also. We won't be going this year.  Sad

The Harry Potter ads on AIM distrupted our cabinet meeting earlier. I am considering filing charges against Harry Potter for interfering with official government business.

The Harry Potter books are FANTASTIC.

The movies are awful.

I'm SO irritated that JK Rowling let the movies be made before all the books came out. Cow.

I went to the midnight show Friday morning. I was very disappointed with how rushed the movie was and how much they cut out. They pretty much cut out the first eight chapters of the book. That said, the graveyard scene and the dragon scene were amazing.

I concur.  His actions last night could be considered treasonous, even if he is a filthy Brit.

I think it's overrated, but I don't hate it.  I'll see the movies just to see them.

I refused to read the books after the third one because my brother, who read the fourth one before me, told me that Sirius Black dies.  I was incredibly sad.  He was my favorite character...

And then, in the third movie, they made Sirius look disgusting!  In my mind, he was hot!

Geez... they ruined my life lol

I am a BIG Harry Potter fan and managed to speed read book 6 in one day Tongue The films are coll, but can never be better than the book. In all honesy I cannot think of a film that has outdone the book/story bar the Shawshank Redemption.

We ended up skipping the movie. No complaints here.  Smiley

Harry's alright, but it has gone overboard. But better that than Hansen or the the Olsen twins or gang culture.

I used to hate Potter, until I finally saw some of the movies, which were unexpectly really good. I'm looking forward to seeing Goblet of Fire, although I still haven't read the books.

I pretty much assumed what Emsworth had said (more or less a lot of the same stuff in every book), and I might get around to reading them one day, but too many other things to get through at the moment.

I'm one of the only people I know who hasn't read the books or seen any of the movies--and at this point, I can't very well go back on that streak now, can I?

I was the same way till about 3 weeks ago -- try watching Prisoner of Azbakahn or whatever it's called --- a damn good film.

Never read a Harry Potter book. Never seen a Harry potter film. And I don't intend to

However, J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" and C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia" are a different story

I still have my Chronicles of Narnia, which go back to the days when paperbacks were 25 to 30 pence a piece Grin

Okay, I just saw the movie last night.  I hate to tell this to all the fans out there, but it sucks ass on a majestic level.

I can understand them cutting huge swathes of the story out, seeing as how the book was huge.  But the overall effect was a very rushed and sketchy film.  Plus, that girl who plays Hermione is truly a terrible actress, whereas the others have all improved with time.  It probably didn't help either that I had to sit in torture for the last 30 minutes because I was desperate for the bathroom.

All I read is the first post, and I all I can say is: Emma Watson is worth it.

Okay, a few more opinions of mine after a bit of discussion at the lunch table.

1. They completely ignored parts of the story, and failed to develop others. Remember when Barty Crouch Sr. was found by Harry in the woods? I cannot remember when they ever mentioned that part again in the movie. That was poorly done. Also, what happened to the chapter long laying out of Voldemort's diabolical plan by Barty Crouch Jr.? Did we simply leave all those details out completely? Oh yeah, and next time, don't cut out everything but the main parts. Moving the story from plot point to plot point with no explanation or character development is just dumb. When did it explain why Ron was pissed at Harry? Answer, it doesn't.

2. Why did they leave out some of the best scenes? The various obstacles encountered in the maze were some of the things I was most looking forward too. They decided simply to slice and dice them out in favor of time. Then, they completely removed not only the enitre Quidditch World Cup, which disappointed me beyond words, but left out any mention of the house elfs from the book.

Behind these two or three major flaws, are a host of lame changes made by the director to move things along. If Lord of the Rings was done like this, the Hobbits would be shown leaving Hobbittown and arriving a scene later at Rivendell. The very next scene they would be departing south and the fourth scene would feature them departing on each of their paths with a passing mention of Moria and Lorien. They really need to address the length issue when they make the fifth movie, or I'm afraid they will make it suck even more. Maybe even cutting out the part where Dumbledore and Voldemort fight each other.

I have read all six books, but have failed to detect any significant difference in the plots. The underlying story of each book is nearly exactly the same; Rowling is merely rehashing the same material over and over.

The underlying story of every book is exactly the same: plot, conflict, resolution.

I don't really know what it is, but Rowling's books flow just perfectly to me. The fourth movie is worth it just to see Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). He is a fantastic villian. Actually, now that I think about it, that was really the only good part of the movie.

I'm surprised we haven't had a "Who would win: Harry vs. Harry Potter?" poll yet.

The movie was fair, in my opinion.
