Any animal lovers here with furry friends, or fishy friends, or even snakes or spiders or something else?

I have a cat that I found as a kitten not too long ago, and my partner has a cat that she adopted in college long before we met. Both are spayed and are indoor cats. I'd have liked to be able to let my cat go outdoors, but we don't have a yard and the area we live can get a little rough. Her cat is de-clawed but the new one is not, as we don't believe in that practice in anyway. This has presented challenges, but after time the cats can share the same space without any problems.

I have 3 dogs and a lot of fish.

I used to do exotic animal rescue and at one point owned several species of snakes, several species of tarantulas, a bearded dragon, many leopard geckos, an african fat tail gecko, a gargoyle gecko, several crested geckos, rats, mice, african soft fur rats, scorpions, a tailless whip scorpion.

I have fostered a lot of the above as well as hamsters, a savannah monitor, an Argentine tegu, squirrels, possums, baby raccoons, and probably many more I can't remember.

2 dogs-a border collie named Sagan (after Carl) that is my first dog that is "my" dog and not the "family" dog or the wife's dog and a border collie/mut named Sadie who is a weird dog and has had at least different personalities in her 5 years in our house.

2 cats-a fat black one who pees on rugs named River (Song) and a feisty American short hair named Rory (also Dr Who related)

Damn dude. My partner's parents have two border collies, her brother and his wife have two cats named Rory and River, and her cat is a fat black one.

This thread below is a lot like this one, but with pictures.

I've had a leopard gecko of unknown gender for about 9ish years. He (I gender him a male for social discussion) was 5 when I got him.  Previously I have owned (all at seperate times) land hermit crabs, goldfish, neon tetras, Ghana chocolate millipedes, rats, a hedgehog, a few cats, a golden retriever and an emperor scorpion.

My kitty died in 2017. I am not ready to get hurt again.

We've had multiple cats and dogs over the years, and when our kids were young they were into various exotic pets (rats, a chinchilla, and a tortoise come to mind).  At present we have one dog and one cat, both rescues.  They have a funny relationship.  The cat is very social and wants to be everyone's friend, while the dog is an old dachshund that likes to chase small furry critters.  But the cat keeps cuddling up to the dog, and has finally worn him down to the point that he tolerates it. Smiley

To John Dule: you have my deepest sympathy.  It's always very hard to lose a beloved pet, and  I'm also a person that takes a long time to be ready again.

We've had 1 cat for most of my life. Our first cat was lost at the train station where my dad works when she was a kitten, presumably because her original owners had lost her when getting on a train. She was looked after and fed by the station workers but after a few weeks of hoping the owner would return, my dad adopted her. She lived a full life and died in 2014. 6 or 7 months later we got a new cat who we still have.

I have four koi fish right now. That's it. I used to have six, but two of them died for reasons I can't figure out earlier in the year.

I've also been watching my mom's boyfriend's dog for most of the quarantine but I don't technically own him, and wouldn't want to. He's incredibly needy and soured me on ever owning another dog.

If I was to ever have another pet I would want to get another duck or a pig, but at the same time I cannot take another pet death after how cursed I have been with them over the past few years. Within one year (2016-2017) I lost a dog, a duck, and a pig. So I completely understand this sentiment by John Dule:

I don't even want to get into how many former pets I've had over my 27 years of existence.

While at some point in my life I might want to get a pet, it really isn't economically viable, and I frankly don't see the point. I think my detachment from animals stems from when I was a baby we had a boxer and it was really energetic and as a baby I didn't wanna play with it and it jumped on me so I'm still afraid of dogs to some extent to this day, but it's a lot easier now that I'm older than it was when I 7-10 when I was scared of basically all dogs.
