Has anyone seen some recent polling on this race?  I did a quick look, and didn't find much.  What I did find was Irey taking Murtha to the carpet on his judge/jury/executioner mentality on the Haditha event though.  I wonder if that will give Irey a boost in her campaign or not.

Unless Irey can overcome that 20-1 fundraising edge, there is no race (even potential).

Interestingly, this is a marginal Dem seat (historically Democrat area) that has been trending Republican for quite a while now, with a partisan index of only about Dem +4 to +5 at the present time period.  If this was a GOP macro year, we could be talking about this one, if the opponent was credible.  It is quite realistic that we could be talking about this seat in 2008 or 2010, either through retirement or because macro factors change.

But anyway, none of these situations exist, so safe D.

Safe democrat. Murtha is the John Dingell of Pennsylvania and just fits the district well. He may lose a slight percentage of votes with his comments, but not enough to matter.

As RM said, Murtha fits the district, the district isn't close enough to target when there are vulnerable GOP seats, and the fundraising is ridiculously lopsided.

Not going to go anywhere.

Irey will run a good campaign, definetley stronger than the past jokes that have run against Murtha but he'll still cruise to re-election. I think someone might poll it but it will be a one time thing.

Murtha will of course win, as well he should. Fantastic congressman.

I think Holtzman actually defeated him in Westmoreland County in '86, or at least came very close.

It's a 3 to 6 million dollar race.  I'm not familiar with Irey, at all.

The right candidate, with enough money, could win, but I doubt it would be Irey.

Murtha in a landslide although I must say Irey is pretty cute for someone running for Congress.

If you look up her name on google, there's some better pictures up on her website, but they seem to have taken down or the links don't work.

Absolutely no gerrymandering going on there.

There have been worse, even in that area.  PA-4 in 1982.
