Republican Jeff Beatty will announce Thursday evening that he is forming an exploratory committee to challenge Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2008.

Beatty, a former Army Delta Force officer who has also worked at the FBI and CIA, ran against Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.) last year, taking just less than 30 percent of the vote.

He is currently the president and founder of TotalSecurity.US, which trains emergency managers and law enforcement personnel.

Against Delahunt, Beatty raised less than $50,000 and loaned his campaign almost $50,000 toward the end. He failed to file a year-end financial report, according to FEC records.

Beatty will make the announcement at 6:45 p.m. in Bourne, Mass.

This sounds like just the winning candidate that the Republicans need.

Will he lose by closer to 20 or 30 points? that's the only question.

taking just less than 30 percent of the vote.

...and in a district that still has a sizeable Republican minority vote at that...

If the GOP candidates only loses by twenty against Kerry, I think that's pretty good even though a loss is a loss.

Is there really a credible challenger out there?  Christy Mihos?  Mitt Romney?  Bill Weld (if he moves back)?  Idk if there are any

I wonder what Jerome Corsi's excuse will be for not running

To even come close statewide, a Republican has to get at least 54% in Delahunt's district.

No, there are no credible challengers if we're talking about winning or even coming close to winning.

Kerry's pretty damn weak now, a lot of people don't want him to run, but I can't imagine Massachusetts electing a Republican to the senate...
