I was thinking about this interesting scenario earlier...

What if, after realizing that his chances at the Presidency are slim to none, John Edwards drops out and decides to challenge Dole for her Senate seat? Would he have a good shot? How likely is this to happen?

I don't think it's really likely, but I think it would be the best course of action for him, since he isn't winning the nomination. His chances would be pretty good if he did, though.

He would have no shot, unless Dole resigned, and Easley appointed Faircloth to the seat.

He would likely win.

Edwards might have had a chance at one time, but not now.  He's moved too far left and run too national a campaign in his quest to be President for him to be elected to unseat a Republican incumbent in North Carolina.  Might could pull off an open seat, but not defeating an incumbent.

He wouldnt be able to use the funds he raised would he? You can take your senate funds and transfer them into a pres account but not the other way, is that correct?

I couldn't agree with you more on that. It would be like Gore going back to Tennessee to run for the Senate, it just wouldn't happen.
