Let’s say Kasich won the nomination in 2016 and he beat Clinton in the general election. How would he have done in 2020? Would he have beaten Joe Biden even with the Covid pandemic?

Yup.

Biden wouldn't have entered the race without Trump. Not even if Trump was a fairly normal prez. He said that Charlottesville prompted him to run.

I would likely had win over the eventual candidate, altrought I can see economic progresivism becoming more popular by 2020.
