Jeezus Walter, who is she?  is she your wife?  is she your maid?  is she somebody you bumped into on the subway and, after a long conversation, became your soulmate?  the only carolyn mccarthies I could find on the internet were a hooker in compton, a graduate student at Tulane, and a member of the US house of representatives.  I'll give the first two a thumbs up.  Hell, at least they're trying.  Not sure what to make of the third.

In short, Walter loves her for her support of gun control.

So someone who supports universal health care and will never vote on gun control is a Libertarian because they think gun control is a stupid thing to fight for because it only hurts Democrats?

Actually, that would make someone a Democrat since they care about helping Democrats...

actually, at this stage of my life...party identification is pretty unimportant to me.

i obviously have some serious disagreements with the gop.

but i also do not like how the democrats dropped health care like a hot potato after 94.  they also shy away from the gun issue now, so some rubes in iowa will vote for them.

we need serious change in this country.  it is obvious that neither party is going to bring about that change.

Because we know there are far more in the Republican Party who want universal health care than the Democrats, and the Republicans are far friendlier to gun control.

Your logic makes no sense.

I definitely agree that the Democrats aren't doing enough on health care; for example Kucinch is the only candidate with a universal health care plan. However, health care is an issue where there are huge differences between the parties. If health care is your top issue, you should really be leaning towards the Democrats.

Let us look at the health care ratings on Progressive Punch.

In the House, every Democrat beats every Republican, and only 3 Democrats are below 70. Aside from turncoat Rodney, every Republican is below 24, and almost all of them are single digits.

It's similar for the Senate, although they are unfair to Kerry for missing a number of close votes.

Here's John Conyer's page on H.R. 676, again:

http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676_2.htm

As for gun control, I personally don't care much about the issue.

You are right that they are a lot of Democrats who are conservative on economic issues and probably wouldn't support universal health care like the Nelsons in the Senate. However, 77 representatives are supporters of H.R. 676, and it would certainly get far more votes (for example, non-sponsor Pete Stark isn't voting no).

Beloved NRA? I hate the NRA because they hurt Democrats. All I care about in relation to gun control is whatever helps the Democrats, period, that is my only concern to the issue whatsoever.

Note the FORMER Republicans. Do you really think the Republican party on a whole is more for gun control than the Democrats?

Walter the US government's future financial shortfall for SS and Medicare exceeds $40 trillion dollars. This is what their report says:
"Despite this short-term progress, funding for current Social Security and Medicare participants will come up $44 trillion short in the next 75 years at net present value, according to the report. Without fundamental reform, the cost of these programs is projected to triple as a percentage of the U.S. economy by the year 2080." Ref http://www.treas.gov/press/releases/hp202.htm

Your plans for universal healthcare will only make matters much worse. Do you think its fair to pass such a huge debt on to future generations.

obviously we would have to find new sources of revenue to pay for a universal health care system.

As John Kerry showed us, we get killed over that issue regardless of what viewpoint we take.

The difference is I strongly support same-sex marriage and think it's worth fighting for, but I think gun control is a complete waste of time because I don't believe it reduces crime. So what's the point of fighting for it?
