People have told me that we don't have party registration in MI.  Is that true?

I think it's voluntary. You can choose to register but you don't have to.

The state keeps no record.  That's why the parties have to make their own lists - there's not state list of voters registered by parties.

You can be a party member (in the British sense, i.e. a card-carrying, dues-paying member)---and it's only those members who get to participate in certain events (such as the Congressional District Conventions for choosing delegates).
