Was fag-hating not one of the, if not the important drive in the gop vote in 2004?

Wasn't John Kerry againt gay marriage as well?  Or are you talking about the drive in blacks voting for the GOP?

Well, I think the anti-gay-marriage-thingy on the ballot for Bush in Ohio surely helped Bush a point.  The decisions in MA to legalize gay marriage and create that as a central issue for many people certainly didn't help the Democrats, no matter on what side of the issue they sided on.  Everyone knows the Democrats are more pro-gay-marriage the Republicans.   It doesn't matter what the office is.  Bush was clearly the more vocal anti-gay-marriage advocate than Kerry.

No, I agree.  My issue with the quote was that I don't think "fag-hating" was the important drive in the GOP vote.  National security was, no?  But if he was referring to Ohio in particular, he might have a point.  Is there evidence that enough Ohio Bush-voters based their vote on gay marriage to sway Ohio to Bush?

Well, the issue is turnout, not really swaying votes this way or that.  And, of course, passionate anti-gay marriage advocates are the types of people who (unfortunately) turn out in high numbers anyway, so we're just talking about the margins.  Bush probably would have still won without it on the ballot.  But who knows what the impact of the MA Supreme Court legalizing gay marriage was overall?

But yeah, no, yeah there's no evidence that I know of that this impacted the vote.  But how could you possibly collect evidence when you're talking about 0-2%?

A month-and-a-half to bang together that response?  Tongue  I see your point, though.
