Option 1 clearly. Bush already waived it at this many days into Katrina. What the h*ll is Obama doing?

That Wilson-era protectionism should be repealed entirely.

To what purpose?  It was suspended after Katrina because it had made such a shambles of pipelines that we needed to augment our coastal shipping until the pipelines could be repaired.  As bad as the Deepwater Horizon disaster has been, it hasn't significantly affected transportation.

It's holding up cleanup ships from coming into the disaster area.

To allow in the skimmers that Holland offered us back in April.

The most frustrating thing about the cleanup is how BP and the White House have refused Dutch expertise for so long.

I'm opposed to all such 'temporary' violations of worker rights.  If it is absolutely necessary in a case of emergency, perhaps it could be allowed, but heavy fines should be levied on the foreign shipping to provide massive aid to the US mariners who are thus denied income.  The key is it should never be profitable to replace American workers with foreigners.

I think it should be reformed but their are some good parts of the bill like "seaman's rights".

A guy on a local radio show called in and said the Jones Act needs to be lifted and then suggested the host ask Gov. Jindal if he has made that request to the federal government yet.

The White House has already decided not to lift it.......I don't see why we wouldn't let foreign ships assist with the cleanup.

So yes, waive it.

Yes, and this is something Obama could do today, or could have done weeks ago.

Has the White House said why they haven't?  I can't see where they said why?
