About McMahon - he knows his CD quite well and, just as importantly, knows how to keep the Staten Island GOP machine from getting angry (which would be really bad).

Have they actually managed to find themselves a decent candidate this time?

I heard from a reliable source that McMahon's challenger next year is likely to be a familiar face.  Here's a hint, it rhymes with "Vito Fossella".

So...do the GOP just not want that seat back?

I voted for McMahon last year, and would likely vote for him again over Fossella.  I'm not sure I can say the same for most voters in the district, however.

it's funny how people are saying that this vote is gonna doom the Democrats and then the most cited examples are Democrats who voted no.  I mean, I understand guilt by association and all, but still.

Baird voted no. MY congressman voted no. I can't say how angry I am at him, our CD would not have voted him out or anything because of this vote. He is so firmly entrenched... Baird better not become the Lieberman of Washington.

I am also in his Congressional district, allbeit the liberal part in Thurston County that he doesn't pay attention to.  I have been disenchanted with him for some time on a variety of issues  but was still voting for him in the general election.  Now I will no longer be doing even that, although if health care passes the Senate, the two bills must be reconciled and then there will be a vote on the "final" bill.  I will be watching closely to see what he does at that time.  He said his vote is no "for now" so there is a chance that it could change for the final bill.

Okay then, just to get rid of this idiotic stigma, let's take a definition of fascism shall we? These are features of fascism, as identified by John T Flynn and based on Mussolini's Italy.

   1. Anti-capitalist, but with capitalist features; - I am of course strongly pro-capitalist and free market, so that one fails.
   2. Economic demand management... - See above.
   3. ...through budget deficits - I support a Balanced Budget Amendment, so that fails too.
   4. Direct economic planning, reconciled with partial economic autonomy through corporatism; - I am against almost all forms of government planning, with the exception of for housing. So nope.
   5. Militarism and imperialism; - Maybe in the past. Not really so much anymore.
   6. Suspension of rule of law. - Absolutely not.

Just to be kind, I'll count Direct economic planning as half. so 1/2 out of 6. Analogy fails. Good day and peace out.

I was unaware that I was discussing your political views in general (although they themselves are certainly not what you define them as).

It is your talk of social parasitism that I find quite disturbing.

I'm identifying a genuine concern with some members of society. By no means am I suggesting that everyone/the poor/the rich/immigrants/I am leeching off the state.

I am from the portion of Thurston county in Baird's district as well, the Griffin/Steamboat Island area. I am assuming you are from West Olympia?

Glad that Costello voted in favor, not that I'm terribly surprised about it either.

By the way, Gene Taylor is dead to me.  He is invincible in his district and still voted no.

It's terrible that Democrats are voting out of party lines like this.  Maybe the Democratic Party leadership should set up a joycamp for these malcontents, where they are waterboarded until they support health care.

Actually, I think the GOP whips and punishment for betrayal tend to be more aggressive.  I just checked the DailyKos, I didn't see any "Wanted: Dead or Alive" style posters for the Democrats who voted No like I think I remember seeing on RedState right after the 8 Repubs backed cap-n-trade.

Which members of society?
