Time to abolish the military, methinks.

We sure know how to win the hearts of those in Iraq, even if we have to kill their body first.

How about we just, you know, use them for actual defense?

2. Even if they were insurgents, they don't necessarily do insurgent stuff 24/7. They may have been taking their kids somewhere and coincidentally run into the wounded. (whom they wouldn't necessarily know is also an insurgent, and in this case wasn't)

Dominic McGlinchey comes to mind here.

Militarism is perhaps the most disturbing aspect of American society.

Burn in Hell

Oh man, when I saw that you had posted in this thread, I was really excited. I was looking forward to some sort of fingers-in-your-ears, eyes-shut denial of everything, followed by a sentence of two of pure, irrational nationalism, maybe with a couple of insults thrown in there attacking liberals and Democrats, and, if I were lucky, maybe something about how great Israel is--and the entire thing would be poorly spelled, with lackluster grammar and seemingly random capitalization and punctuation!

Suffice it to say, I was pretty disappointed. C-.

Honestly the only places in the world with more worship of the military than the US are places like North Korea and Eritrea. Even in an arguably more militarized country like Russia you don't see this, actually on the contrary the Russian military is mostly seen a joke and disrespected even domestically. This thread is pretty vomit-inducing.

Libertarians are opposed to the soldiers even being in Iraq fighting a war of aggression in the first place.

For which I place the blame squarely where it belongs - on the politicians. Soldiers don't get to decide where they go. They follow orders or get thrown in jail.

Americans are not at the present-time forced to join the military.

So? The soldiers still don't have any power over when a war starts, nor do they have the power to legally leave the military until their term of service is up. It's a job, some people have to sign up to make money - get over it.

Which doesn't mean its the soldiers' fault that their being sent off to foreign battlefields.

Very good points and just as likely as anything else to be true.  We certainly don't know a whole hell of a lot about any of this...which makes it funny that some people would use it to bash the entire military over it (or our entire culture).

The problem is that nobody dares to even question how appropriate these actions by the military are because it's certain that he will be labeled as anti-American and unpatriotic.

You should go watch Fahrenheit 911. Or just read some threads on this forum. Actually, come to think of it, you could read THIS thread.

Obviously I'm talking about people like politicians or journalists, people who are in the spotlight and can influence public opinion.
If anything, Fahrenheit 9/11 proves my point.

Funny, one could say the same thing about domestic criminals forced to rob and kill because it's a job and they need money.

Yes, one could say that... if one was completely retarded.

Disgusting. And these sick bastards are doing all this in the name of the U.S.A. and at the expense of the American taxpayer.

And if they come back, we'll no doubt get to experience collateral murder here on the home front as well from these psychopaths.

You can call them "sick bastards" all you want but the fact remains is that neither of us would know how we'd act on a battlefield with the very real possibility that your life could end quickly with one shot. From watching this video it seems the gunners were very cautious about when they fired and who they fired upon, asking permission before they opened fire. As to some of things that were said, it's not really of any shock, war makes people animals, open up a history book sometime. Who knows what could have been in that van, the enemy may have popped out with a stinger missile. This is probably one of the least objectionable things seen in "decent" warfare.

"Like this" implies that they did something outside of the usual in warfare, when in fact they didn't but your second point is spot on.

Actually, I think it's far more 'usual' than is widely acknowledged or realized.

Yes, killing the enemy happens in warfare.

Killing people who are not the enemy also happens. This is why we should have less wars.
