I'm glad to hear that about personal harassment and invasion of privacy. That's the real reason why Hamilton was so much worse than say Phil, who probably flamed and was a jerk as much as him. Mostly ignoring that and focusing only on his flaming is probably why he hung around past five or so mod reviews when he should've be banned long before.

I'd like to applaud the mods on allowing us to see how many infraction points we have on our profile. Good idea.

Harry? As in the guy from Mississippi?

I think he posted a thread once where he was like [paraphrased] "I'm going to post a nude woman in this thread!" and then proceeded to do so.

Dave's work, I think some moderator suggested it though.  I didn't even realize that he had actually implemented the advice -- we really don't know what's going on yet!

Pretty soon we'll be able to print these regulations into a neat, easy-to-read 448 page "expected behavior on the forum" guideline book, complete with infraction calculator that includes automated trends to such milestones as complaining amongst the moderators, general whining among the populace, and eventual banning if Dave ever gets around to it!

All this, and for the easy price of 2 payments of only $19.95!  BUT WAIT, there's more!  Suggest a new regulation and a little moderation laudation in the next five minutes and we'll include a free canister of realistic sh**t flavored brown paint so you can sport your nose in your own true style!  But you have to act now as supplies are limited!

This reminds me of this time when I was about 7 or 8 and my mom spent the day coming up with this insane "infraction sheet" where we got $7/week in allowance and if we yelled, that was a dime off, if we talked back that was like a quarter and if we didn't finish our chores that was $1 off...  this also included insanely complicated fridge charts and things.

It lasted about a day until we went back to the old system of "I'll decide the proper punishment when and if I see fit because that's the only way it really works"...

Though I have to say I don't think I ever actually got allowance unless I specifically asked.  But then again we got way more than our allowance worth out of free candy bars and pop from the lodge at our resort and we certainly didn't go wanting for anything, really.  What can I say, I was a spoiled little brat.

Breaking News: Now transparency is bad!  Keep the minor, insignificant details secret unless they actually reflect something relevant, the forum demands!

Transparency is great, Lunar.  I'm not sure where I was actually condemning transparency.  You're nothing if transparent!

That's not what my whiny bitchfest is about and you know it.  I just have serious doubts about a new system that the moderators don't even understand and will likely consume even more of their time to try and implement the policies.

When you start devising charts and point systems, things go downhill fast.  That's just my personal experience...

If we're going to go this route, we need to dump the American moderators and install the Germans.  They love a good chart!

The bottom line Snow, is that despite all the sound and fury, and fancy software, and points (it sounds like what you rack up with traffic violations in California), nobody gets banned except those who really want to. I mean, who has been banned? Hamilton (sock city among other things, many other things), Hoffman, who after being an ahole for months, got bored, and then started a serious campaign to get banned, Stark (who generated a host of drunken threads one evening, and well, wasn't that a blessing?), and E, who I think was Hoffman's template, and Hoffman's inspiration. That is about it as far as I can recall. Libertas got close, but is better now. The mods are basically fundamentalist Christians (as it were) out to save souls when they can. JMO.

We should also be able to see what our moderated posts and reported posts are.

You can see the former whenever you get a "warning" [and have been able to for months].  Still trying to learn how that interacts with the new system we have, but that used to only occur after four infractions.  Still trying to learn if that's within a constrained period of time, or ever, and if that's the latter case, I'd be an advocate for an expiration date so that far fewer undeserved posters even receive warnings that carry unrealistic implications of further punishment that just are not at risk for materialization.

I'd not be the hugest fan of people seeing moderated & reported posts before they see a warning, as if it's such a rare occurrence that it doesn't happen multiple times, it's best just ignored imo, especially considering that we make mistakes, just like normal posters with no chance of actual punishment whatsoever make mistakes that occasionally result in their posts being justly infracted.  Even our "warnings" I feel may be overdone.  Too many people are receiving them who have no chance of being on mod review, let alone being on the chopping block, and thus have no need for any sort of formalized warning message at all, as they are just fine in the status quo.

I'd rather have people who are actually affected [i.e. under actual threat of banishment or other serious action] to really occupy most of my time when it comes to contesting & reevaluation my mistakes as moderator than to spend my finite time debating contexts of decisions which don't really matter.

What a sensible idea! This rather fancy overlay we have now seems to me a rather futile attempt anyway to effect something objective, on a matter which is really inherently subjective (and hopefully also considers what a poster contributes on good hair days). I mean in the end, either the powers that be are honest brokers, trying to use good and unbiased judgment, or they are not, and as I said, in the end, at least so far, next to no one gets banned except those that really want to. I just don't know where this suggestion came that mods or Dave are ban happy, because it is entirely divorced from the factual record.

Cool. Where?

Two infraction points showed up in my profile inexplicably, so I started a thread about it. I had assumed we would be messaged if we were ever infracted.
