Until the 2012 Presidential Campaign officially begins and, with that, the Race to Iowa.

The Presidential campaign doesn't have an official beginning, I think.

And the jockeying for the R nomination has already begun.

The jockeying for the Republican nomination began on November 5th, 2008, or perhaps before then. Part of me wishes we can just move the primaries up to July and August. Starting a presidential campaign two years before the actual election is mind-boggling.

All of me wishes the primaries would stay put starting just after New Year's Day.  Two years of constant campaigning is glorious!!

The 2012 race for the Republican nomination began the date that Romney endorsed McCain for President in 2008. I remember thinking "Awesome! McCain will either win and Romney will be VP or Treasury Secretary, or McCain will lost and Romney will be elected President in 2012!"

Since you were wrong about McCain picking Romney as VP, I'm suspect about your second prediction too.  Also because the person McCain did pick to be his running mate has a talent for getting people to listen to her, and will probably enlighten Republican primary voters about Romney's health plan in Massachusetts, which even if she doesn't win the nomination herself, could be fatal to his candidacy.

Nothing big will change in 11 days.  It'll be all "Is she running?  Is she qualified?" all the time.  I do think for another year the primary will just be Romney vs. Palin.  Or Huckabee too if he decides to run.  If they all fizzle, someone else could get traction but that probably won't be visible for over a year still.

We're now down to 200 hours (Central Time) until Election Day begins (midnight Tuesday morning).

But like Midterm Elections is when it becomes "acceptable" so to speak to outwardly jockey for the nomination.

plus, the media will be shifting to 2012 talks. Though I'm guessing nobody major will announce until Feb/Mar, that seems to be the silent agreement(though it was originially Jan/Feb)

Well, here is further confirmation that none of the top contenders is likely to announce their candidacy until after the first of the year:

Still, I do wonder if we're just days away from the first announcement.  Not from a Romney or Pawlenty, but from someone like Gary Johnson or George Pataki....I mean, what do they have to lose by announcing early?  They'd likely get a burst of publicity that they might not otherwise get, simply by being the first to enter the race.  Many of the current political stories in the news will dry up after election day, so a first announcement of candidacy by a 2012 contender might get a fair amount of attention.
