Republican Presidential candidate: The Republican candidate is the hypothetical current governor of Ohio. His first elected office was mayor of Cincinnati, notably receiving the endorsement of most major labor unions, which he maintained in every subsequent bid for office, including his current one. As mayor, he expanded the size of the city government by building and repairing roads and parks and increasing enforcement of drug laws. As governor, he modernized public infrastructure and took unprecedented steps to expand access to higher education and enforce workers' rights and environmental and consumer protection laws. He also compromised with Democrats in the state legislature to increase pregnancy education and access to birth control, but made it more difficult to gain access to an abortion. To compensate for the increasing cost of government, he signed into law two controversial tax increases aimed at reducing tax loopholes and increasing the consumption tax.
Democrat Presidential candidate: The Democratic candidate is the hypothetical junior senator from Alaska. His 'claim to fame' is his belief that progressivism and libertarianism are not inherently opposed, so he has attempted to reconcile the two ideologies by emphasizing their similarities and reconciling their differences. He was first elected to office in a major upset when he defeated the establishment candidate for the Democratic Party for US Representative by accusing him of being a 'big-government liberal'. After winning the party's nomination, he was elected to the House of Representatives. After one term, he challenged the corrupt Republican incumbent Senator and defeated him by less than two percentage points. As a Senator, he has been vehemently anti-war and has attempted to increase transparency and reduce corruption in government.
Discuss the above scenario with maps. If you need more information on the candidates, feel free to ask.
