I did college in Johnson county and yet never made it to the fair. I'm curious how the turnout was between the dem and rep side.

EDIT: Dah, hadn't looked at the link yet!

The fairgoers seem pretty left-leaning except for the Balanced Budget Amendment, which is understandable given how absurdly awful almost all of the messaging about what that would entail has been and the fact that there's nobody really out there adequately explaining why it's such a horrible idea.

It looks like someone's going to have to start explaining it, as the TP has chosen to force the issue.

Oh, definitely. I just can't think of anybody who's in a position to do so. I don't think it's a good use of the President's time and most of the other Democrats with economic credentials suffer from a crippling lack of likability (even the ones like Barney Frank who are absolutely beloved by their bases in their districts).

What else is a good use of President's time? I can't think of anything, since the balanced budget amendment is about to become the only political issue for the next few months.

Point taken.

I guess what I was saying is that this whole thing strikes me as absolutely idiotic and so it's a damn crying shame that any of it has to be a use of his time. But you're right, what else is there to do.  it.

Johnson County is the most left leaning state in Iowa. So yes, I find the balanced budget item a little odd. Though admittedly, one person's balanced budget amendment in mind might be different from the next as some might want exceptions for wars or emergencies but be good with it for all other times. And some folks think that such a thing would force congress to raise taxes and close tax loop holes/end corporate welfare. So a naive view on how the politics of the present work, but still a left leaning view.

Thought it might be that, since Des Moines is in Polk and I couldn't really think of anything else that would make someplace the most leftist in that particular state.
