Sure if all laws concerning mandatory child support payments are abolished.  Why not?

Does the fact that the actual prostitutes are also female have any relevance to your thinking on the subject?

Yes - because they are the victims of the hate coming from the 'nice' women.  Nobody hates a ho like a 'good girl'.

Also, what's wrong with having one area, just one, in which women have 'leverage' over men rather than the other way around, anyway? (Not to say that I agree with you that banning prostitution inherently constitutes that.)

Well, alas, given the power of the sex drive in the human psyche, Nathan, this particularly leverage - the dictatorship of the poonanny - is akin to an absolute enslavement.

Okay, whatever, but my question is, should the prostitutes also not get to vote on anything related to prostitution?

Absolutely disagree.

It might make sense at first glance to say "only those who are concerned by an issue should decide". But in fact, it's extremely undemocratic. John Rawls expressed it very well with his "veil of ignorance". When you take decisions for your whole society, you are not a man nor a woman : you are a citizen. Ideally, people shouldn't even know who they are in order to take the decisions they consider as just for the whole society. Of course it doesn't work that way in reality, but this assumption is the core of democracy.

If we extended your logic to every issue, that would mean only poor people should decide about unemployment benefits, only rich people should decide about wealth taxation, only black people should decide about affirmative action, etc... This menas splitting the society into communities and thus breaking the Social Contract that makes democracy possible.

Strangely enough, I think Antonio has the best answer. I didn't even expect him to respond that way.
