So the point is - don't get too comfortable, Julian?

Perhaps Barankov can go to the British Embassy in Quito?

no, he's fine -- Belarus is on our 'team', along with Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, etc.  certain concessions have to be made.

I see.  Odd that a Belorussian traitor/terrorist would flee to Ecuador then - didn't do his research.

At least the Ecuadorian government won't threaten to storm it.

wow

While I'm certainly no love it or leave it type, this antipathy of your home bothers me.  In that I commend Opie for at least decamping.

As clarence can attest I don't really care about patriotism, but unlike Assange, how does local repression in Belarus provide a benefit for the world? So this is definitely indefensible.

I think you may have missunderstood what I was "wow"ing at.  I was "wow"ing at Tweed being proud to be on the same side as Belarus.

Nope, I agree with you on the "wow".  It was Tweed's knee jerk anti American attitude that rather annoys me.   Opie may hate it but he left for what he finds to be greener pastures.

Belarus is not on 'our team'. At best, it's another country that's not on the Team USA payroll.
Nonetheless, he would probably have been delivered unto his fate far earlier and with less fuss if he'd gone to Western Europe or the US. Interpol considers him a criminal that belongs in Belarus.

You shouldn't commend me for that, patrick - I merely ran away, Tweed wants to stay and fight.  He's the 'commendable' one, no?

As for the 'wow' regarding Belarus - the point isn't to expect perfection from opponents of American/neoliberal domination, dead0man, but to marvel that any such countries still exist.  Such phenomenon are encouraging, though the details are often very mixed - like the Kmer rouge or the Iranian Revolution.

Imagine it like this - you visit a nuclear wasteland and you see a disgusting worm - the worm is still disgusting but the fact that anything's alive after the horrible radiation is wonderful.  The radiation is still tremendously worse than the worm.
