This TL's gone out of whack enough, hasn't it? I'm actually starting to regret introducing the Libertarian Party now.

I'll most likely wrap this up shortly, either tomorrow or Wednesday if I find the work ethic and/or boredom to post two or three more updates by then.

I like the TL, and I think people here want a TL which has the LP and the Greens as major parties Wink

If you're talking about this TL, then it'll have to wait in line as there are other timelines I'm planning on doing, new ones and ones that I intended to do when I joined this forum. However, a map dominanted by:
Orange/Brown: Conservative/Constitution
Yellow: Libertarian/Classic Liberal
Green: Green
would be very interesting, but making the maps would be Hell.

The 2010 Mid-Term Elections

The 2010 Mid-term Elections were in large part a referndum on the Johnson Administration. They made very few gains because of the slow recovery fo the economy.

Green Party Victories

There were only a few major victories for the Green Party that year. However, some of them were big as San Francisco Mayor Matt Gonzalez was elected to the Senate, winning the seat being vacated by Senator Schwarzenneger. In New York, former Congressman Ralph Nader, who had decided to focus on the Presidential election in 2008 rather than running for re-election, won his House seat back.

Democratic Victories

In Michigan, Governor L. Brooks Patterson was re-elected because of the growing commerce in his state during the time of the "Great Recession". In New York, Governor Rudy Giluiani was elected to a third term. He was seen as a successful Mayor and Governor, best known for cracking down on inner city crime. In Massachusetts, Governor Joseph Kennedy III was elected to a second term, easily beating his opponents, Republican Martha Coakley and Libertarian Charlie Baker.

Republican Victories

In their most awaited victory of the night, Republican Michael Steele won election to the Senate in Maryland. He had formerly been Maryland's Lieutenant Governor from 2003 to 2007. In New York, Senator David Eisenhower was re-elected by a large margin against his Republican and Libertarian opponents.

Independent Victories

In a large victory for the man who was seen as the leading Independent in America, Congressman H Ross Perot Jr was elected Governor of Texas. However, former Governor Jesse Ventura was denied a second term in Minnesota. He was mostly seen as a nut job.

Libertarian Victories

There were very few major Libertarian victories in 2010. However in California, Senator Arnold Schwarzenneger was elected Governor, beating Governor Michael Reagan. In Texas, in another large victory, Congressman Rand Paul was elected Senator. Despite that, there was little other good news, as many much more minor Libertarian went down in flames in places such as Montana, Minnesota, and even New Hampshire.

President John F Kennedy May 29, 1917-December 3, 2010
United States Congressman from Massachusetts' 11th District 1947-1953
United States Senator from Massachusetts 1953-1968
36th President of the United States of America 1969-1972
Ambassador to the United Nations 1991-1993

The man that would become called "President John F Kennedy" was born into a rich background. His father, Joseph Patrick Kennedy I, also called "Papa Joe" Kennedy, was a businessman who had the fortuen of making the acquaintance of then-Deputy Secretary of the Navy Franklin D Roosevelth during the 1910's. This fostered an alliance between FDR and Kennedy. Later, when Franklin Roosevelt became President, Joseph Kennedy went to work for him, overseeing such things as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Maritime Commission. From 1938 to 1940, "Papa Joe" was Ambassador to Great Britain. In 1946, Kennedy, a war hero of World War II who, despite Addison's Disease had continually sought to serve his country, was elected to Congress. In Congress, for four years, his office was just across from that of then-California Congressman Richard M Nixon. In 1953 as Republicans won the Whitehouse in a landslide, "Jack" Kennedy won election to the Senate, beating Senate Henry Cabot Lodge.

Kennedy was first considered to be on a Presidential ticket in 1956 when he pushed to be Adlai Stevenson's Vice-Presidential nominee. In 1960, after a tough primary battle with Senator Hubert H Humphrey, and beating Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson at the convention, Kennedy became the 1960 Democratic nominee. However, in a close general election, he lost to then-Vice-President Richard M Nixon. In 1964, he declined running for the nomination again, but was put on the Democratic ticket headed by Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson, who lost to Nixon by a comfortable margin.

In 1968, saying "This is my year", Senator John F Kennedy ran for and won the Democratic nomination a second time, choosing then-California Governor Ronald Reagan for Vice-President. Despite a large amount of success in his first two years in office, Kennedy was forced to resign in May of 1971 due to health complications and Addison's Disease. These would worsen later in life, even as Kennedy attempted to teach political science at Harvard.

In 1974, Kennedy resigned from his position at Harvard, having to focus on his health. During that time, rumors developed about John F Kennedy's honesty to his marriage vows, as it was reported that he had engaged in numerous affairs with a number of women, including movie star and model Marilyn Monroe. Despite news that a divorce was in the making, It was finally announced that Kennedy had renounced his earlier ways and would be faithful to his wife Jacky from then on.

After a major recovery in the 1980's, former President John F Kennedy once again taught at Harvard and obtained a rather lucrative career speaking. In the 1990's, as Libertarian President Barry Goldwater Jr. was having problems with the United Nations in an attempt to release the nation of Palestine from American control, Kennedy was offered a chance to get back into politics, and became Ambassador to the United Nations, serving from 1991 to 1993. During that short period, Kennedy was able to successfully negotiate the release of Palestine into the hands of the United Nations. After that, Kennedy once again began experiencing health problems, though his relapse ended by 1999.

In the years between 1999 and 2010, Kennedy once again taught political science at Harvard until 2007, where his health problems came back worse than ever. In 2008 at the Democratic National Convention, it was reported that it would be Kennedy's last major public appearance. In 2010, during the lame duck period of Congress, Kennedy died in a hospital at age 93 years old.

I feel kinda obligated to mark the death of David Nolan in this, given that he was the founder of the Libertarian Party, which became a major party in this Timeline.

Epilogue

The remainder of President Gary Johnson's first term was spent on haggling with Congress over slim portions of his domestic agends. Meanwhile, overseas, the nation of Iran began posing a nuclear threat. Answering reponse from PaleoLiberals and NeoConservatives, Johnson said the the defense of America would be his "first priority". However, not much would be done in the immediate future, and many claimed the Johnson would only use military action if America was directly attacked.

With the economy, signs of light began to show as unemployment by 2012 went down to 6%. This greatly increased President Johnson's re-election chances. He was able to brag about being the President that saved America from a financial collapse.

The 2012 Election

For the Libertarians, Vice-President Dick Randolph announced that he would not be seeking a second term with Johnson because of his age and his wish to retire from politics. In order to replace Randolph, Johnson chose Senator Rand Paul of Texas.

The Republicans were in much more dire straits as they faced a tough convention fight between Massachusetts Senator Mitt Romney, Illinois Senator Barrack Obama, and New York Senator David Eisenhower. Eventually, Obamam pulled out a victory thanks to the endorsement of former President George Bush. In order to appeal to the more fiscally Conservative wing of the party, Obama chose Senator Eisenhower for Vice-President.

The Democrats would easily nominate former Indiana Governor Dan Quayle for President, a known Conservative in a state that was known for voting Republican every year. For Vice-President, he chose Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour for Vice-President.

The Green Party would face a smaller amount of candidates than expected, one due to Johnson's success with the economy, and two due to the fact that the Republicans nominated Barrack Obama. Eventually, the Green Party nominated Congressman Ralph Nader of New York for President and Congressman Dnnis Kucinich of Ohio for Vice-President.

President Gary E Johnson (L-NM)/Senator Rand Paul (L-TX); 43.7% of the popular vote
Former Governor Dan Quayle (D-IN)/Governor Haley Barbour (R-MS); 27.5% of the popular vote
Senator Barrack Obama (R-IL)/Senator David Eisenhower (R-NY); 24.9% of the popular vote
Congressman Ralph Nader (G-NY)/Congressman Dennis Kucinich (G-OH); 3.5% of the popular vote

What the Future Holds

44. John F Kennedy Jr. (D-NY)/Robert McDonnell (D-VA); 2017-2025
45. George P Bush (R-TX)/Martha Coakley (R-MA); 2025-2029
46. Rand Paul (L-TX)/Barry Goldwater III (L-CA); 2029-2037

In 2016, Senate Majority Leader John F Kennedy Jr. won the Presidency, returning a politica dynasty to the Whitehouse. Re-elected in a landslide, in 2020, it was believed the Democrats might be able to win a third term. However, in a very close election, Texas Senator George P Bush won against Vice-President McDonnell. In 2028, with a bad economy, former Vice-President Rand Paul, who since then had been elected Governor of Texas, was elected President.

As for the Greens, after a very poor showing in 2016, a large amount of Progressives and Liberals would return to the Republican Party, but not soone enough to stope the nomination of moderate George P Bush in 2020. In 2024, they would run their own Liberal candidate in the Republican primaries, opposing President Bush. However, President Bush would win re-nomination.

Congratulations Cath on finishing your first timeline. You have done something that not even some of us seasoned posters on these boards have yet to do: complete a timeline! Now for something completely different:

1) Are there any radical changes to present day Europe/Asia and the Middle East?
2) What cultural changes have occurred as a result of Nixon's election in 1960? Such as differences in music, pop culture eg. Paul McCartney and/or Bob Dylan 'dies' in 1966, Jim Morrison survives, etc?
3) What are your ideas for your next project?

Cheers.

1) I'm not too good with international events, but there are changes in the Middle East. In 1979, because of a "Palestine Hostage Crisis", American ended up going to war with Palestine, resulting in over a decade of fighting in Palestine. We ended up handing it off to the UN in 1992, but the UN proved ineffective and the major amount of aid and funds for reconstruction came from the US during the 90's and the 00's. The result is that Palestine is a lot closer to Democracy than in real life, but it's still nowhere near the US or even Iraq. There was no 9/11, the real event being July 4th, 1984, when Palestinians bombed the World Trade Center. Current US operations in the Middle East do not involve nation building, except with Palestine. Instead, there is a military group called "Team B" which fights Al Qaida and the Taliban, and assassiantes leaders of Al Qaida.

2) I always regretted when writing this that I forgot to includ information on the counter-culture. In this timeline, the counter culture ended up coming out a couple of years later as a result of fighting in Cambodia rather than Vietnam. An example is Jim Morrison, who in this Timeline, begins experimenting with acid at around 1965, helps create "The Doors" in 1965, and releases The Doors' debut album in 1967. However, the Doors in this timeline don't make it big until around 1969 and 1970. Psychedelic rock, instead of peaking at around 1969, goes until 1972. Morrison lives past 1971, and after the Doors release their sixth album (Titled "We are ruled by Television", not "LA Woman"), stays with the Doors, recording two other albums. Around 1973, the Doors announce a temporary hiatus, and Morrison flies to Paris, where he dies in 1974.
I'm not that familiar with other bands, but John Lennon still dies and Bob Dylan still lives (though a Bob Dylan death would be very interesting). In future timelines, I'll work to go into more detail about the sixties and seventies culture, given that it can produce some very interesting butterflies.

3) My ideas for my next project are in a different thread (you've probably already seen it). Aside from those, I'd like to work on a "Jim Morrison in 1980" timeline, which I think would be sweet, and a joy to work on. (just think, I get to name the Doors Albums that come out after 1971!)

First of all, it's "Orval Faubus", not "Orville Faubus", and he was a New Deal liberal aside from being a segregationist.

C'mon man. I finished this timeline, my first, almost two years ago. The very, very, very revised version of "Nixon 1960" is easily available and is known as "A Second Chance" (in reference to JFK getting a second chance in 1964). I mean c'mon man.
