This hasn't been suggested at all, and I'm surprised I just thought of this. Why aren't the Dems recruiting Chelsea Clinton for the WV Senate election in 2014? She lives there, so she wouldn't have to carpetbag like her mom, and the Clinton name is hugely popular in West Virginia. She is one of the only Democrats who could probably beat Capito at this point. Any slight chance she runs or even publicly considers it?

Since when does Chelsea Clinton live in West Virginia.  She and her husband just bought a $10 million dollar apartment in New York City.

I know how implausible the suggestion is, but I'm looking to know why that is.

She'd force the the GOP to spend money here, but she still wouldn't win.

She's never been elected to anything before. So why is she more important than the millions of other Democrats living in West Virginia? Because of who her parents are? No. If she's interested in politics I'd very respectfully ask her to run for dog catcher first, or work on someone's staff on some major signature issue like her mother did with Watergate and health care.

IIRC the Dems have stronger candidates in WV that just opted to skip the race.

Officially the dumbest suggestion I've seen on the Forum. And let's remember: I predicted a Santorum victory in 2006.

Dude, I'm not suggesting it, I'm just wondering why it hasn't been suggested? Clinton is a Democrat in a state that almost always elects Democrats to the Senate, and her last name just happens to be very popular in said state. And let's be honest, the idea of her being in politics is far from new. I'm not endorsing the idea; I'm just asking why it hasn't been discussed.

Again, what makes you think Chelsea Clinton lives in West Virginia?  She and her husband recently bought a $10.5 million apartment in New York City.   As far as I know, Chelsea Clinton has no ties at all to West Virginia.

Why doesn't Chelsea Clinton run in South Dakota or Montana, while she's at it?  She has no ties there, either.

I'm almost certain I read about Chelsea living in WV at some point. If I'm wrong about that, totally disregard everything I've said so far (though it wouldn't actually be any different than Hillary running in NY to which she had no ties. Still I don't endorse it at all).

No one has broached it because there is no good reason for anyone to broach it. Why hasn't anyone broached Jenna Bush running for Governor of Texas? No one gets a free expectation because of their name unless they show some evidence of preparation for the job. None here.

Hillary was actually first invited into NY by the state party, led by Charlie Rangel and Daniel Patrick Moynihan. They wanted someone with star power to run against Giuliani. They had to convince her to run.

On April 8, Chelsea said, "Right now I’m grateful to live in a city, in a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, and my governor, and my president, and my senators, and my representative."

It's clear that she's referring to NYC, not West Virginia.

While I'm not sure about the mayor, I have no doubt Chelsea would hit it off with good ole' Earl Ray.

She lives in WV? I don't think she has any experience. It might work somewhere like California, but not West Virginia.

Super awkward, but I just realized why I thought Chelsea Clinton lived in WV and had been speculated for WV office before. I was re-reading badgate's "A Political Fable Part 2" timeline, in which Chelsea Clinton is a WV Congresswoman and is running for Governor to replace incumbent Shelley Moore Capito as she pursues the 2024 Republican nomination for President. Whoops! Sorry everyone.

I'm disappointed in how critical people have been towards the OP in this thread. He/She made an honest mistake, there's no need to get the claws out. Besides, I've seen much more absurd topics that have been taken seriously on this forum.

And Chelsea Clinton could very well have a future in politics, but maybe not in West Virginia.

The GOP attacking Chelsea in that race would be easier than harpooning a whale tied to a tree.

-Not from WV; doesn't live in WV; no meaningful connections to WV
-Too much fancy book learnin' from Stanford and Columbia
-Married to a Wall Street investment banker who's a J-E-W
