Boehner vows to make the US default if the Democrats don't negotiate

Oh, so now you want to negotiate on ObamaCare? Why not back in 2009, when the Democrats actually were trying to negotiate on ObamaCare and you were just screaming "HELL NO YOU CAN'T"?

Oh, and Mr. Speaker, in case you haven't noticed, the deficit has been shrinking and this year will be only about $800b (though the shutdown and possible default might mess that up by really hurting the economy). And Obama has repeatedly offered to make a deal with you on tax and entitlement reform, you're the one who has rejected it in the past. You don't need to hold the country hostage to get it on what should be a clean bill to raise the ceiling.

Remember when Republicans were the party of fiscal responsibility?

A serious conversation?  What does an amendment on a CR requiring a serious conversation look like?

He's basically implying that the House GOP is ready to let the country default, and he can't control it.... so give them what they want (whatever that is) or else it's gonna happen.

No, actually. They've been big proponents of tax cuts and military buildups since before I was born. And at 31, I suspect I'm older than the median Forum poster.

Republicans are officially the party of institutionalized imbecility.

But we all know this is a bluff. If the GOP makes America default on the Debt Ceiling it will be the end of them as a major political party. They will be discredited in the eyes of independents and the "donor class" will be none to pleased.

The Senate passed a budget months ago. The House GOP has repeatedly refused to open up formal budget negotiations with them since then. This is a joke.

Democrats already negotiated/caved. The Democrats already gave Boehner what he wanted, $988 billion in discretionary spending, instead of the $70 billion more Reid wanted. Democrats should negotiate by insisting on $10 billion extra per day that the CR and the debt ceiling haven't passed.

But what does the GOP even want?

Boehner says they only want a "conversation." I really doubt that. Besides, we've been having this one for years now.

A "serious conversation about what is driving the debt" is of course impossible with the Tea Party involved.

Why not? You don't even need to use any words, you can just point!

Not just the House GOP, but the Senate GOP as well.  They've blocked moves to send the Senate budget to conference for bipartisan negotiations with the House GOP's budget nineteen times since April.
