Does the fact the defendant confessed on YouTube, alter how you view his sentencing or trial?

The fact that he felt guilty and confessed on Youtube should be taken into consideration by the court when making sentencing decisions, and there should be a lighter sentence imposed because of it.

It's a fine line to walk between encouraging people to be honest and come forward in such cases... without giving the impression that they don't deserve punishment for reckless actions that led to the death of another.

Still, 6 years in prison is too long (though he'll certainly get out before his 6 years is up), especially when coupled with losing his driving privileges for life, which is probably the most appropriate part of the punishment.

Actually, the 6 year sentence is mandatry. He'll serve every day of it. And since the 6 month jail sentence is being served beforehand and the judge obviously won't let him out early, it's apparant he'll serve every day of that too.

Considering he could've done 8 1/2 years and killed a guy drunk driving, this sentence is seems about right.

I'll admit, it's often hard to see someone who makes a horrible decision like this do more time than most actual gangbanger thugs
