During the last storm, there were warmer temperatures recorded on Mars than in the Midwest.

Anchorage, while situated on an inland "bay", is still on the ocean.  Also, a monster ridge of high pressure along the west coast has kept the flow across Alaska out of the south, especially near Anchorage.  So they get bombarded with storms, but are quite mild.  The ridging over the North Pacific looks like it'll stick around, though I'm sure Alaska will have some cold shots.  Even so, it looks like cold for the midwest/northeast for quite a while.

One of the days during that polar vortex thing it was colder down in parts of Florida than up here in northwest Montana. I really got the same feeling as in the OP. xD

lolamericans

going down to -19F (- a bazillion C) tonight

I got a little bit of frost bite on my neck on the bike ride to work this morning. Light pink in colour. Feels like an extremely minor burn (only if I touch it). There was a gap in my scarf Sad
