One of the things change - 2 less senators!(268 to win)

1948: Truman wins (-2 EVs)
1952: Einsenhower wins (+6 EVs)
1956: Einsenhower wins (-2 EVs)
1960: Kennedy narrowly wins with only 4.000 votes (+10 EVs)
1964: Johnson wins (- 2 EVs)
1968: Nixon wins (+5 EVs)
1972: Nixon wins (-2 EVs)
1976: Carter wins (+10 EVs)
1980: Reagan wins (+4 EVs)
1984: Reagan wins (-2 EVs)
1988: Bush wins (+4 EVs)
1992: Bush wins (+3 EVs)
1996: Clinton wins (+11 EVs)
2000: Bush wins (-2 EVs)
2004: Bush wins (-2 EVs)
2008: Obama wins (+3 EVs)
2012: Romney wins with a  narrow margin 30.000 (+11EVs)

None of them would change elections, with crude numbers, but I have no doubts that candidates would focus more on the original state of Virginia...

Who would have been the Senators from Virginia if West Virginia remained part of it?

I partly disagree.

You cannot simply sum up the results of both states.
Obama, for example, would have won Virginia in 2012, as he would have campaigned in West Virginia. Surely, he couldn't have won any county in the western part of the state, but he would he gotten 30,000 votes from that corner.

However, more often than not it works.
I wonder if Clinton would have had a chance of winning Virginia in 1992.
Other than that, it looks very bellwetherous.

Who would have been the Senators from Virginia if West Virginia remained part of it?

Harry Byrd and then his son Harry Byrd Jr in one seat, and the other might go to Robert Byrd (no relation). At some point they get replaced by John Warner and Mark Warner (no relation).

That seems about right. Robert Byrd would likely get elected to the Senate in 1960 or 1966 while John Warner would be elected in 1982 when Harry F. Byrd Jr. retires.

Given the nature of the political establishment in Virginia in the 50s and 60s, it would take a lot more for Robert Byrd to get into the Senate, even as a member of the House, but I think he would do it eventually. The name parallelism is cool anyway.

One of the things to consider in all this is that if West Virginia were a part of Virginia, it would be subject to Virginia voting laws, which disenfranchised many whites as well as blacks prior to the VRA.  These laws might not be as strongly enforced in the West, but they would still make an impact.   Both due to voting restrictions and political culture, in the 1960s presidential elections WV had among the very highest voting rates (by adult pop) in the nation, and VA among the very lowest.
