Satisfaction with U.S. Congress Plummets to 29%

(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Few adults in the United States are content with the performance of the House of Representatives and the Senate, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 29 per cent of respondents approve of the way the Congress is handling its job, down six points since September.

In the November 2004 congressional ballot, the Republican Party elected 232 lawmakers to the U.S. House of Representatives, while the Democratic Party secured 202 seats. The Republicans also have a majority in the Senate, with 55 members in the 100-seat upper house.

Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted 283-144 to pass legislation that would protect firearm manufacturers from facing civil lawsuits filed by crime victims. The Senate had endorsed the bill in July, so it now heads directly to U.S. president George W. Bush for approval.

The legislation does not ban civil lawsuits stemming from breach of contract, negligence or defective products.

American voters will renew the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate in November 2006.

A very good point.

While Americans are fed up with Congress in general when you ask them about their own particular Representative they are much more approvative of him.

In think what we have to understand is that every merican Congressman usualy gets a 60% approval rating from his or her constituents. "nd he's a lot better than those other politicians," is what his constituents say.

I have been one of the loudest on here regarding the failure of Congress in general (both parties are equally at fault here).  While I love my Congressmen and Senators, it does not mean that I can't also be upset with them for not considering the consequences of their actions each time they vote for/against something.  Congressmen need to know that their state voters will re-elect them if they practice "common sense" in office, and not worry about trying to position themselves for a re-election run with each vote.
