The piece mentions Paul by name 10 times.

I thought the Texas National Guard involved serving in Texas and Alabama until you went AWOL.

One can only hope that we get a Sanders vs. Perry race where Perry insists we have to re-invade Iraq.

Incidentally, while attacking Paul, Perry isn't very clear about what exactly the US *should* do about the Islamic State.  Almost none of the GOP 2016ers have gotten specific on this.  As far as I can tell, Rubio is still the only candidate to call for air strikes:

Surely at some point he'll come up with a more specific plan.

1. Kill the bad guys
2. America!
3. I forget

Rick Perry's Foreign Policy:

"Muzlums is bad folks, y'all. They hate Dear Lord Baby Jesus and they hate 'Murica and they hate muh freedoms. I hate Muzlums so much, I'm gonna re-invade Iraq and Afghanistan and invade some other countries, like Somalia and Solyndra."

At this point, we'd probably cut to a clip of Rick Perry pulling a Muslim woman's hijab off her head, punching her in the face and then handing her a Bible and firing a handgun in the air a few times.

I'm sure I wouldn't agree with what he actually wrote, but this seems like a smart move by Perry. Paul's been getting a lot of buzz lately, and I would guess Paul's stances are pissing off a lot of traditional heavyweights in the GOP.

Rick Perry is a true conservative and I pray he runs.  This isolationist nonsense within the GOP will hurt the three-legged stool of social, fiscal, and national security conservatism.

Jonathan Chait describes it as a "Reagan-off", given that the two of them keep upping the ante in the number of Reagan references:

For example, from Paul's latest:

Social Conservatism is incompatible with warmongering because war is not pro-life and Jesus denounced violence.  (Since 1973 there have been more abortions performed in the US than the entire population of Iraq).

Fiscal conservatism is incompatible because war costs a lot of money and is the reason we are in so much debt.

Warmongering has served only to harm our national security because every intervention creates more enemies.

any possible Perry comeback will be wrecked by Paul. He delivers those Perry lines well.

I think Perry has been playing good politics lately. He is taking on the President and the isolationist wing of the GOP, sending a message to the establishment neocons that he is on their team.

If you compare Perry post 2012 to Palin post 2008, Perry is showing how you come back from being a punchline. He may not completely rehabilitate himself but I still think he has a good shot at 2016 nom
