Great news.  Now remove all rights to it immediately from the private sector so we can actually benefit from this.  
and that's how you get companies to stop doing R&D.

Lockheed Martin is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American taxpayer.

Actually, that's not entirely accurate.  Or at least it wasn't a decade ago.  I don't like to bash Lockheed Martin, since they paid one hundred percent of my salary for a three-year period, but they do have an sickenly sweet deal with Uncle Sam.  Nevertheless, LMT is a publicly-traded company, and anyone can buy it  The last time I checked, only about 75% of their shareholders come from the United States.
