See, that is the scary thing about the Update thread:  if Bushie can find work and reinvent himself (CADD), what excuses do 90% of the unemployed have?

So, next time you go and bash on the top 1%, or even the top 10%, just remember that Bushie, if he were to apply himself just a little bit more (like show up to work 95% of the time), could out-earn 50% of workers in the United States.

It's a good point.  The only reason Bushie is out there and sort of applying himself, after all, is that it's shameful to accept hand-outs from the government.  If only more had the vigorous individualism that Bushie oozes from every orifice, the US budget would be completely under control.  Alas...

Just look what Bushie has done:

1) he is willing to take low level jobs (call-center), which most unemployed are unwilling to take.
2) he stepped out on a limb and went back to school (to learn CADD), which most unemployed are unwilling to take.
3) he has interviewed and landed multiple jobs over the past years

If he would just put his heart into it, Bushie could be living the American Dream.  And if the American Dream is available for Bushie, if he is willing, to take hold of it...why are we paying tens of millions of people welfare and acting as if it's not their own fault?

If Obama wants to talk about *FAIRNESS* in the SOTU, then Joni should have Bushie standing next to her while she gives the GOP response.

I mean he also has the support of his parents which allow him to go back to school, to stay afloat on things like bills/debt, and etc. People can get a low wage job, but most can't live on that, and I can guarantee you that Bushie would never be able to live alone on that. They would also have things to consider, like medical expenses (because most employers don't give benefits), dental costs, electricity, food bills, various other necessities, insurance, etc.

It's not that the unemployed are unwilling, it's more of a lack of opportunity, I'm sure the vast majority of minimum wage earners would go to school/college if they could study and take care of their family. Community college is $4,000 per year, and minimum wage earners make $15,000 a year. It's not like they can afford it with bills to pay and (in many cases, perhaps a majority) children to feed. We're not even talking about a four year university, which would cost $7,000 a year from cheaper in-state schools, not even talking about the costs of textbooks and the like.

Just because these people aren't going to school doesn't mean that you should build a strawman saying that they're lazy. It's out of circumstance and the lack of opportunity for poor people.

You can't use someone who's not truly independent (sorry Bushie Tongue) to argue that point.

Well, I grew up in a poor neighborhood and I can tell you from experience that 90% of them were poor due to their own decisions.  And MANY of them had some sort of family support, but they didn't take advantage of it. (e.g. they didn't finish highschool)

Opportunity is all around them, they're simply unwilling to see it or don't have anyone to teach them how to see it.  Rather all they have around them is people preaching victimhood.

But, then again, there is so much opportunity because there are so few willing to take advantage of opportunities.

There's also the phenomenon in which Bushie has consistently lived in states (Oklahoma, and for a brief time, Utah) that have enjoyed abnormally low rates of unemployment throughout the entire economic downturn. The highest unemployment ever got in OK was 7.2% and that was five years ago. It's been at or under 5.5% for the past three years. If someone like him were looking for work in an economy with 10%+ unemployment, he'd be f[inks]ed.

Bushie has a four-year degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, the premiere undergraduate university of northwest Oklahoma.
