It does seem that while we were distracted in the Great War sacrificing countless for no apparent reason, central banks consolidated power.  Nobody else won.  If only they benefit from it...they would logically be the ones who want it the most.

The football match approach is really only applicable with masses of hindsight. If you'd supported the Central Powers here you'd have been locked up before you could say 'DORA'.

Anyway, the reality is that before the war most people (and this most definitely includes the various Socialist parties) had no idea just what their governments were getting them into, while later on most people were ignorant of the full horrors of the war (largely because belligerent governments made damn sure to keep things that way). The sheer absurd murderous futility of it all only became apparent afterwards.

One of my great grandfathers was an ILP supporter (member?) in a reserved occupation and was white feathered; safe to assume that he was 'against'. Another was also rather radical, but lived in the Kingdom of Lloyd George on Earth so I don't know. Another joined up and was gassed on the Western Front (dying as a direct result decades later). Another (a hilariously sketchy individual) seems to have spent most of the war in Egypt although I forget why. He was IIRC a loyal Liberal at the time so was presumably in favour (but I don't actually know). It's also possible that he was too drunk to notice that there was a war on at all. A diary entry (a classic of its type: rarely updated and mostly used to record recipes and folk medicine) by one of my great grandmothers suggests that she wanted the war to end as soon as possible.

Being a German-American from Wisconsin I would have probably supported the Centeral Powers with hesitations until the US joined, then would have switched sides out of fear. With hindsight, neither. There was no valid reasm for WWI.

Given the size of the British, French and Russian Empires its amazing more countries didn't join the Central Powers. What if India had revolted? Could the British have put it down? Would they have pulled troops out of Europe to do so?

The Central Powers, just as my forefathers did and proudly fought for.

I do not support the war though.

Neutral. As a Pentacostal and adherent of the Assemblies of God, I would've been a objector on basis of religious belief.

Compounded with my familial heritage in the Dunkard Brethren.

As far as I'm aware, most members of AoG like their Southern Baptist and other evangelical counterparts have no objections to wars in general.

Not prior to 1967. Pentacostals were once considered peace churches. Many still hold to those beliefs.

So do you consider yourself a pacifist too? Haven't you advocated for maintaining American support for Israel among other things?

I would have supported the innocent men in the trenches on both sides forced into serving the ruling classes for no reason. To hell with the capitalists and junkers on both sides.
