Modern (or almost modern)

Constitution Party
Libertarian Party

Republican Party (at least I know where they stand.)
Reform Party (Perot, Buchanan, and Nader are too different to really judge this and they are almost dead.)
Populist Party (Would be higher if was still around)
Prohibition Party (Take Prohibition out of their platform and they might be higher up (and might cease to exist).)

Green Party
Socialist Party
Democratic Party
---
Not sure how to compare these since they have not been around in about 150 or 200 years.
Federalist Party
Democratic-Republican Party
Whig Party

I can't believe Republicans are ranking Libertarians so high. All they do is bash us for living in a little thing called "reality," lose us elections (including some Senate seats in 2000), talk about how great isolationism is, insist that deflationary money is a great thing for the economy, and claim parts of the Constitution are unconstitutional.

I'm only ranking current parties, because if historical parties were included, then it would be difficult to take into account past policies of modern parties. (For instance, the positions of the Republicans and Democrats during the Reconstruction Era.)

Libertarian
Democrat
Republican
Reform
Socialist
Constitution
Green

Socialism is the antithesis of libertarianism. You can like one or the other, but not both.

First off, I don't like socialism much. I reviewed my list and put socialism between the Reform and Constitution parties. This was not done as a response to your post, but rather was the result of a reassessment as to the importance of my various beliefs.

Socialism, while having good aspects, is based on flawed assumptions. The most problematic of these is the assumption that we can stop the merry-go-round by rounding up all the horses.
