Something tells me that few other Democratic presidential candidates would mention Reagan as one of their favorite presidents:

On a related note (not quite the same subject, but not worth starting a separate thread over it), columnist Francis Berry notes some interesting tidbits from Webb's 2004 book and the media interviews he gave at the time, calling Andrew Jackson "the most underrated American president."  "I am at heart a Jacksonian" he said back then:

In the book, Webb also defended creationism:

And complained about affirmative action:

Apart from the creationism bit, Jim Webb is probably the Democrat I'd be most willing to vote for. No wonder he won't be nominated.

Alright, I like him, but no, just no.  (not about the Reagan thing, but the Creationism and Affirmative Action comments... yeah, no.)

I think it is great that Jim Webb is running as a historical reenactment. This is a learning experience for all the kids.

"Come one, come all and see the mythical white conservative southern Democrat! In ye olden days these creatures were plentiful south of the Mason Dixon line. In fact, they were the dominant species. But then came the dark times, brought upon by one of their own - the El Bee Jay."

I agree. Racial AA is reverse discrimination; class is more important than race, as otherwise poor whites, the Democrats' best non-minority voters, are severely discriminated against.

Jim Webb is making a powerful bid to be president of 1956.
