The GOP has previously nominated a businessman with no political experience. I'm surprised no one has drawn a comparison...also like Trump, Willkie had been a Democrat prior to the present administration.

Keep in mind I don't think Trump will actually win the nomination, but the precedent is there.

I have seen one comparison.

Wendell Willkie, was an individual with substance. He had depth and was not so enraptured with self-promotion and attention getting stunts.

I don't think many "normal people" will immediately know who Willkie is.

Small minds only see what's in front of them.

I can definitely see this comparison.

I could see Willkie as being a more moderate and less eccentric Trump, sure.

Why should people destroy Willkie's image?

Wilkie was somewhat supportive of the rival administration and merely wanted mild reductions/ technocratic changes to help make FDR programs less awful. Trump hates the rival administration and has an empty platform of repealing existing programs.

Willkie was a "me too" Republican.

Trump is a Republican who adheres to some policy positions that are more appealing to Democrats than Republicans.

He wasn't really though. Wendell Willkie was a very liberal Republican, basically only offering slight re-tooling of FDR's policies, and even approached FDR with the possibility of forming a liberal party independent of the Republicans and Democrats.
