Ethan Couch is probably the most hated person in Texas. The outrage after the verdict was universal and covered the entire political spectrum. I didn't hear a single Tea Partier or Republican apologizing for or justifying it, even in the peanut gallery on Facebook and Yahoo News.

I'm not sure what kind of "sliding scale" they're using, but obviously it's extremely flawed. I mean, the kid was let off because his family was too rich, and now the rehab facility has determined that his parents are too poor to afford treatment? This whole situation is just so absurd.

Yeah.  Most conservatives are in favor of tough punishments across-the-board.  Some of the more extreme conservatives I see on Facebook literally want to bring back dungeons, bread/water, and flogging/torture, so I'm sure they weren't fans of Couch.   

That judge was such a complete moron and if his position was an elected office (is it?), he needs to be voted out ASAP.

But this case, like Shkreli's, encapsulates neatly the twisted world conservatives effectively endorse no? Couch and Skreli are mere symptoms, and the disease is the glorification of wealth and profit.

Shkreli also got zero support from the conservative blogosphere. Most I saw were either accusing him of being a Hillary plant or citing his Sanders donation to blame him on "the left". But yeah I agree there's a little cognitive dissonance there.

The more pertinent point is that Couch is such a perfect stereotype of a rich, white, suburban Texan teenager.  Whether he is a conservative or not is barely relevant, though it'd certainly continue to play into the stereotype.

Anyway, the first people in this thread to make this a 'liberals vs conservatives' thing rather than just a 'rich vs poor' thing were conservatives, so... defensive much? 😉
