After a brokered convention for the GOP, Pat Buchanan was selected as the nominee, narrowly besting out Gary Johnson, who would later be his VP. President Wellstone's allegiance lied with the liberals, Kucinich was originally going to be replaced with Joe Lieberman or Bernie Sanders but he was kept on by Wellstone. The first Jewish president, Wellstone had an approval rating of 51%, and he was going to legalize same sex marriage by 2006, on of his campaign promises, and slightly raise taxes, and a new universal health care system. David Boren is the American Hawk choice, running with Duncan Hunter. The Hawks need a strong showing in this election to maintain national prominence.Who will win? Let's see.

Fmr. Treasury Sec. Pat Buchanan/Fmr. Governor Gary Johnson: 276 Electoral Votes 43.8%
President Paul Wellstone/Vice President Dennis Kucinich: 236 Electoral Votes 236 Electoral Votes
Fmr. Senator David Boren/Representative Duncan Hunter: 26 Electoral Votes

With Boren being allowed into the debates, the election remained a close three way race. American Hawks were on the rise, and Wellstone's approval rating was going down. Pat Buchanan portrayed himself as a Washington outsider, Wellstone as an incumbent reformer, Boren as a former Washington politician turned reformer. In the end, after vigorous campaigning and at 6:30 AM on November 3rd, 2004, the election was decided for Buchanan in the close state of Wisconsin.
