I have always been interested in this topic. Moldavians and Romanians speak the same language and share a common history and were both part of the Romanian state after WW1. One could argue it's separation from Romania was because the USSR stole it's old Russian empire territory as a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. During the Soviet era, the government strongly promoted a separate language and Moldovan cultural identity in order to discourage Romanian nationalism and irredentism. I guess 45 years of promoting a separate Moldovan identity has worked somewhat, as there is no massive push for reunification.

What say you?

Based on a conversation I just had on this topic with someone from Moldova, the call for it is made out to be much louder than it is in reality. So unless there really is a grassroots movement to reunite the two that gets a lot of support, no. I also really doubt Romania is in a place to take on Moldova's problems right now.

That being said, it probably wouldn't be the worst thing for them to reunite, but it would be interesting to see what would happen with the Transnistria situation, should reuniting ever become more a more mainstream goal, and what Russia would have to say on the matter.

Maybe, though a professor of mine once compared it to Kosovo reuniting with Albania.

No, take it from someone who knows the region. Moldova and Romania have completely different cultures. That would be a disaster, there'd be epic divides and the Romanians look down on the Moldovans.

Maybe, but it should be a voted on as a referendum in both countries.

Until Transnistria is resolved, I can't see it happening anyway.
