Does anyone know of an actual case where a country experienced immiserizing economic growth?  My professor says that it is only a theory and has never actually happened, and that if any of us can give him some numbers and write an essay to prove it, he will give us an A+ right away and submit our name(s) to the Nobel Committee.

Heh.

Would you mind telling me what 'immiserizing' means?  I can't find it on dictionary.com.

Basically, it's a theoretical concept that says in some cases, economic growth in developing countries would hurt rather than help their economies. The bias toward exports would worsen the terms of trade.
