July 14th, 1980:

Good evening, and welcome to our coverage of the 1980 Republican National Convention here in Detroit. As you know, there has been speculation about presumptive Republican nominee Ronald Reagan's running mate. Some name that have been fielded as possible running mates include George Bush, Congressman John Anderson, Senator Jesse Helms, Congressman Phil Crane, Congressman and former Bills quarterback Jack Kemp, Congressman Ron Paul. Each of these picks have their merits for Reagan, but given he has been striving for party unity it has been speculated that George Bush, his primary opponent will be the most likely nominee. It looks as though we are getting word that Reagan is coming forward to announce his Vice-Presidential pick, lets cut to that now.

Hello my fellow Republicans! This convention represents so much more than just the presidential election, this represents our strength and commitment to our party, and that we are strong and united to defeat Jimmy Carter and the rest of the democrats come this November! As such, the two names at the top of the ticket must represent us all, and bring strength to our down ballot Republicans! We need to show we are the party to lead. That is why I am here to announce my running mate. He is a man of conviction, a strong leader, a wise man, and someone the American people can count on. I have never met a more humble man in my life. That is why I am happy to introduce to you the next Vice-President of the United States, Gerald Ford!

It's Reagan/Ford!

Reagan/Ford 1980!

Will Anderson run third party, will Gravel run Libertarian, or will no well known person run third party?

Was Ford still previously POTUS post-Watergate?

I think so.

POTENTIAL SPOILER IN SMALL LETTERS:
I think Reagan dies ITTL, hence the title. Ford will have became President by accident two times.
