While it's been less than 48 hours since Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women, Republicans running for the Senate (notably Portman, Ayotte, Heck, Kirk, Murkowski, McCain, Johnson, Toomey and Rubio) are scrambling to distance themselves from Trump. The limited polling since shows upwards of 70% of Republicans still support Trump. (Though it damaged his Independent support much more.)

Could disavowing Trump actually hurt these candidates more than Trump's actual comments? Between losing Republican support in disavowing Trump, and losing Independents for not going far enough, will we see any major race changes?

Blunt only gets cut with one end of the double-edged sword, though.

I think it might hurt nearly all of them, but to varying degrees. Those in safe states for Trump aren't going to feel the effect that much. And those like Portman who are massively overperforming Trump will probably be okay. I don't see it effecting Kirk much, since he never supported Trump, but he was probably going to lose either way. Vulnerable Senators in swing states who aren't overperforming Trump by double digits could be in a lot of trouble, though.

Ayotte and Burr.

Portman could also get hurt, but it won't be enough.

If Climbing Maggie Hassan keeps running the Role Model ad of Ayotte with Trump's new comments it could polarize some women & dignified older voters which would hurt Ayotte!

I think the main problem is going to end up being the betrayal of Senate Republicans by extreme Trump supporters.

This will have the biggest effect on Nevada and New Hampshire.

Of course, if Trump completely collapses, then Toomey, Burr, and Blunt might be the ones suffering the most from this.

View knows little about politics but this is very indictiave how much trouble Rubio can be if he continues/discontinues Trump. It cuts both ways because if he goes against Trump it will hurt him but If he doesn't withdraw his support it will hurt him.

Oh, glory be. I figured this would be the end of at least Ayotte, Rubio, and Blunt.
