Congratulations London.  Thankfully it wasn't Toronto or New York City.

All being well, it will be Her Maj's Diamond Jubilee Smiley

Personally, I'm delighted. Meanwhile, Chirac's approval rating slips sub 20% Wink. Couldn't happen to a nicer fella

Bah, Londres a fait du bon boulot ces derniers temps, et puis comme ça, you english folks succeeded to make Chirac became crazy, once again, and that's a good point.

But I'm still quite disappointed, 'cause Paris' games would have be, I'm sure, a great feast as world hasn't seen for a long time.

Hey, you dissing Sydney?

Athens; sure. Atlanta; definently. Nagano and Salt Lake City? No complaints. But Sydney held *breief cough* the Best Games Ever (TM) (C).

Best games ever? What about Los Angeles (1984), Lake Placid (1980), or Mexico City (1968)?

In any event, it's great to have the games in London, n'est-ce pas?

I'm partial to the Los Angeles (84) Olympics myself.

Thank God they didn't pick New York Smiley

I say that as a resident of the Northeast, who would have had to deal with all the hassle that getting the Olympics entails.

I'm am glad it is not in New York.  It is a giant pain in the a$$ and a lot of money for two weeks of annoying tourists.  I don't think New York needs to show itself off to the world. London is a great city, however,  I am glad it is them and not us who  will have to deal with the traffic nightmares, massive security checks and higher taxes that will ensue.

By the way, it seems Paris was the favorite.  However, two of the judges making the decision are Finnish.  Chirac's comments probably killed Paris' hopes.

From the description I read in the local paper, it seems that London moved into the lead once New York had been eliminated, as our votes largely went to London (whereas Moscow's went to Madrid and Madrid's split down the middle between Paris and London). So we gave Chirac another case of heartburn. Grin You're welcome, U.K. Wink

Even with the terrorist bombings, I'm still happy London won the 2012 Olympics. Congratulations.
