The Twin Cities Combined Statistical Area is over 3.8 million. The Twin Cities metro area has 3.5 million people, and the Twin Cities urban cluster has 3.1 million people.

I grew up in the Bismarck-Mandan metro area which has over 124k people and 90k people in the urban cluster.

Looks like I live in the smallest "metro area" so far ...

Isn't anyone else living in a city with only 10K people and in a rural area with no bigger city nearby ? Like in Wyoming or Montana ?

The Bridgeport/Stamford CT metro area (where I live) is quite dense, but not among the largest metro areas in the country (it ranks 57th).  Total population as of 2010 is about 939,904.
