I think part of it is the mercurial aspect of our politics.
Paul Ryan was telling the truth when he said to GOP members of the House the other day, "Many of you got elected simply by saying you'd repeal Obamacare." So if so many people are genuinely freaking out over the repeal, then how come nearly the whole damn country elected Republicans 3/4 cycles (10,14,16) with a huge factor being against Obamacare?
Elections have consequences. This whole notion so many Americans have of "It doesn't matter who wins, har har" is quite disturbing. It matters.
Because the leader of your party, Donald Trump, promised he would "take care of everybody" (his words!) with a bill that would simultaneously result in cheaper, better healthcare. Of course this was total nonsense, but I don't expect the median low-info voter to know any better.
I seem to remember your Harvard professor idol promising to "slow the rise of the oceans."
