Did Harry support McGovern? I can't find anything about his views on the 1972 race. I wonder if he reluctantly supported him like Lyndon.

•"Richard Nixon is a no-good lying bastard.  He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, and if he ever caught himself telling the truth, he’d lie just to keep his hand in…[Nixon is] the easiest man to beat.“ – Harry Truman, 1960

•"If Nixon had to stick to the truth, he’d have very little to say.  You don’t set a fox to watching the chickens just because he has a lot of experience in the henhouse…Nixon has never told the truth in his life…He is against the small farmer.  He is against small business, agriculture, public power.  I don’t know what the hell he’s for, and that bird has the nerve to come to Texas and ask you to vote for him.  If you do, you ought to go to hell.” – Harry Truman, 1960

•"I wonder how many people remember our history and realize how close Jefferson came to losing the election in 1800, and how close Aaron Burr came to being our third President, which would have been as bad as electing Richard Nixon today.“ – Harry Truman, 1960

•"I never liked Kennedy.  I hate his father.  Kennedy wasn’t so great a Senator…However, that no-good son-of-a-bitch Dick Nixon called me a Communist and I’ll do anything to beat him.” – Harry Truman, 1960

•"I don’t think the son-of-a-bitch knows the difference between truth and lying.“ – Harry Truman

My opinion of Nixon just went up (as well as Joseph Kennedy)

LOL, hard stuff... Truman was always very blunt in his words.

Who did he actually support for the 1960 Dem nomination? I think either Stevenson again or Johnson.

I'd be shocked if he didn't support fellow Missourian Stuart Symington.

Considering his opinion of Nixon and the Republican Party as a whole, I find it hard to believe he would not have.

As for 1960 - Truman did indeed support Symington, and was very open in his estimation of Kennedy as a political lightweight too young and inexperienced to make an effective president, to the point where he publicly refused to attend the 1960 Democratic Convention once it became clear Kennedy had the race sewn up.
