Election Night 2020: Trump vs. Cuomo
6:00 EST
Wolf Blitzer: Good evening to our viewers, here and abroad, and welcome to CNN's coverage of Election Night in America.
The day is finally here. Two dozen Presidential candidates, two bruising primaries, a brokered convention, a brutal fall campaign, and it all comes down to this. President Trump and Vice President Pence have seen Democrats regain both houses of Congress, survived impeachment, and escaped defeat in the primary by Governor John Kasich.
However, they have struggled in the general election campaign against Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic Governor of New York and scion of a political dynasty, who emerged from the largest Presidential primary field in history and the first brokered convention in more than forty years to take on the incumbent. He has faced massive revolts among the Democrats' liberal base, including the refusal of dozens of Congressional Democrats to endorse their party's nominee and a massive scandal involving graft by the management of the New York subway system.
Cuomo and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris of California, initially opened up a massive lead over the President, but this has gradually narrowed -- and, as we are about to find out whether America will elect a new President or return the current administration, the Democrats only lead the Republicans by three percent in CNN's polling average. In addition, we will be watching other critical contests, which will decide whether Democrats build on their current Congressional control, or Republicans bounce back from their landslide defeat to regain the House and Senate.
