From the pro-life activist's perspective of "cut into abortion rights anywhere and in any way", this actually makes perfect sense, so I expect a few yes votes from Christian conservatives. For people like myself who are pro-choice, this definitely sounds horrendous.

Most of my polls aren't meant to ask thought-provoking or unique questions. I usually just add them when I post news to get people's opinions, under the assumption that occasionally people who wouldn't bother responding to the thread might still cast a vote Tongue

But going by what you said - I fully expect some pro-life people to support most laws that reduce abortion. These are part of the recent surge of laws that are meant to regulate abortion out of existence.

It's one thing to support requiring consent from the father, and another to require permission from a rapist. The ends usually justify the means when it comes to life issues, but creating new "rights" for rapists is unacceptable.

However, having not read the bill, I will not take HuffPo, NARAL, or the ACLU's word that this bill actually does require rape victims to get permission from their rapists to get an abortion. I think that part is probably just a giant mental leap on their part.

Expressing no opinion on the wisdom of the bill itself, the Arkansas Final Disposition Act of 2009, which is amended by H.B. 1566, contains express provisions for situations in which one of the persons possessing the right of disposition forfeits such right, any number of which could have relevance:

Moreover, the right reverts to one parent if reasonable efforts to locate the other parent fail. Legislators should amend certain parts of this bill to forfeit the right of disposal for any individuals accused of rape, as is done for individuals accused of murder.

This seems like the new fad in the GOP these days since they got tired of talking about heartbeats.  I remember a similar bill in some other states and wouldn't be surprised to see them cropping up pretty much everywhere that's controlled by republicans.

It's not permission for the abortion, is it? They could ask them after the abortion.

This is what the ACLU had to say in describing it (link):

Sounds like a loophole - very much in line with the current pro-life playbook.

This wasn't the only restriction enacted either, as that link^ above describes.

While its not clear to me from what I've read that this law would actually allow the father to veto the abortion, it would require the woman to notify the father afterwards. If I recall correctly, such spousal notification requirements were already ruled unconstitutional in Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Casey was what I thought of too

The seed-supplier typically isn't well suited to being a father in any sense of the word.

Surely the SCOTUS won't let that fly.

Exactly it's a stupid law, but SCOTUS probably won't even take it up, just leave it for a lower court who will end it before the ink dries.
Unless they wanted to overrule Roe. This would be not the best intention to do it, but a decent one.
