This is not news to any of us who have been following the latest trends in nutrition science.  Gary Taubes' book Good Calories, Bad Calories is another excellent example of the sorts of things in this study.  I haven't read it yet, but I did read Nina Teichiolz's The Big Fat Surprise.  I can't recommend it highly enough.

Low-carb diets not only show greater improvement in A1C, but also in blood cholesterol, triglycerides, and sustained weight loss than low-fat diets.  This has been shown consistently in study after study.
