Leadup to 2018 Elections
In February 2018, the Senate and House passed Obamacare repeal by a razor-thin margin (50-50 in Senate and 219-214 in the House). The bill, the Second American Health Care Act, was generally unpopular with the American public (19% approve, 69% disapprove), and many were shocked that the GOP would ram it through anyway. This lead to public outrage at Trump and the Republicans. Polls after this event showed Trump's approval rate at a meager 29%. Democrats, enraged by their failure to prevent this act from passing, resolve to block the rest of President Trump's agenda until the Second AHCA is repealed. This move surprisingly gains public support, much to the ire of the GOP. Trump himself insults the Democrats in a massive tweetstorm. This, in combination with the year's earlier events, triggers protests against the Trump in several major cities. On May 19, 2018, during a protest in San Francisco, Trump orders the National Guard to shoot at protesters to 'send a message'. This results in 73 dead and 136 wounded. Following this event, the Democrats and about half of the Republicans issue a joint statement condemning this event, named 'Bloody Saturday' by the media. An approval poll 5 days later gauged Trump's approval rate at 12%. With Trump and the GOP mired in scandals, the 2018 elections were turned upside down. In Tennessee and Mississippi, high-profile Democrats entered the Senate races. In Texas, a poll found Democrat Beto O'Rourke beating Ted Cruz by 5 points. The Democratic Party entered election season confident and on the rise.

Note: This TL may not be that realistic. If you support Trump this isn't the timeline for you
