I was born in Lee county. I'm just curious why it votes Democratic 60% every election. I visit there like 3 times a year and these people don't seem like any democrats I ever met.

To make this discussable for everybody are there any counties that just puzzle you in there voting patterns?

I think it is a big union working class area, where the people understand their economic interests better than most middle americans.

Yeah, there are a lot of factories and industrial jobs in my hometown at least. I went up there at the first of October and Bush was definately winning the yard picket sign war.

Looking at election statistics for modern elections has shown that Shannon, South Dakota, is one of the most solidly Democratic counties in the U.S.  I'm assuming that the county is predominantly Native American, but I haven't bothered to make sure.

Duval, Texas also seems to top the Democrats' best counties lists in many presidential elections.

That's Pine Ridge. Nothing puzzling here.

Reference PA 13.... <DUCK>

Yard signs MEAN NOTHING!! If you drove through parts of Mayfair, which is a blue collar rowhome section of Philadelphia, you would have found many Melissa Brown signs back in October.  How did Allyson Schwartz win that neighborhood?

Actually, they mean a lot. Schwartz had literally hundreds of her signs all over major roads. For those that really didn't follow the race/didn't care, they most likely went into the voting booth and remembered the name Schwartz after seeing about 50 of her signs as they drove to work that day.

If you want to debate this further, I suggest the PA 13 thread.

My theory is that people who own houses and can put up yard signs will be more Republican since they are more affluent. The apartment dwellers will always vote heavily Dem.

See my post in PA 13 thread to avoid people's bitching.
